Types of Content for Social Media

The million dollar question is always “what should I post on social media?” If it is not that question, it is “when should I post on social media?” To start off, the best way to know when you should post is looking at your professional dashboard and see what time your current followers are most active, then base your posting off of that. But for most, it will be between 7AM-9AM or 3PM-6PM! Now that you have some idea on when you should be posting, let’s talk about what type of content you should be sharing on your social media accounts.

TikToks/Reels/YouTube Shorts

With TikTok taking off as much as it did, Meta and YouTube have now been rolling out short video to their platforms. Reels are a huge hit on Instagram right now, and are slowly becoming a hit on Facebook. YouTube Shorts are getting pushed over long video on YouTube. With that being said, it is time to get behind the camera and creating short videos. This is not going away any time soon - it actually is key to social media marketing right now, but you just don’t want to post a short video to post. There still needs to be a strategy behind your posting.

Types of Reels

  1. Tutorials - Everybody loves a tutorial video. Show your audience how to use your product or service.

  2. DIY - Get creative and show your audience how to create something (usually budget friendly)

  3. Behind The Scenes - People love to see behind the scenes of your business, so make a short video on you.

  4. Motivation - This could be a quote, you working out, starting a business, etc.

But one thing to remember about reels is that the music choice is key. The music must go along with the video you are sharing, and you want to choose a sound that is getting views or may slowly go viral.

Carousel Posts

Do you have multiple products that look alike, but only want to make one post? Then do a carousel of those products. This will allow your audience to stay on your post longer by swiping to view each one.

Quotes/Memes

What do most people share on Instagram/Facebook? You already know… QUOTES and MEMES. If you can grab your audience attention by a relatable quote or meme, you know they will be sharing that post to either their story or page. This will give your business FREE advertising.

A Few Tips

The point of social media is to allow your audience to feel like they have a personal connection with you. The best way to do this is to be you. Analytics are there to guide you, but don’t focus just on analytics. Focus on what you are selling, who you are selling to, who you are, and what your brand stands for. If you do this, you will succeed in the social media world, but also remember social media is ALWAYS changing. So, if you are still lost, that is why you hire a social media manager.
